The Province of Pisa is linked with viticolture from an ancient past. Etruscans, who lived in this area between the IX and I centuries BC, played a fundamental role in this topic. They were used to produce and drink quality wine. They used to grow vines trough the “alberata” technique, using alive plants as support. Today this growing technique has been abandoned in favor of more contemporary ones which increase grapes quality.

Going forward to closer times, following the creation in the XIX century of an early model of international and national markets, the need to make their products known in the land of origin becomes fundamental. From the acts of the Agrarian Committee of Pisa, held in 1884, comes the decision to appoint a representative of each municipality of the Province of Pisa together with the local agrarian committees, at the urging of the Prefect of Pisa, in order to organize in 1885 the first Wines and Oils Fair of Pisa. In 1891 was published the Register of Viticulturists and Shopkeepers of Tuscany, where we find the current Province of Pisa as one of the most represented, showing how the enological activity was developed in this area.

In 2011 the Terre di Pisa D.O.C. was finally born from the desire to enhance the quality wine production of Pisa, already known on international markets, but disconnected until then from a territorial conception of promotion. Terre di Pisa Sangiovese and Terre di Pisa Rosso were born, two enological pearls that together will have a production of half a million bottles in 2019.
